I just came back from Acer warehouse at International Business Park.

I was supposed to be collecting my Acer Aspire Touch And Rotate Notebook AS1820PTZ but there is no stock at the warehouse (except for demo units).

Here’s the official explanation:

So as you can see, they are offering 2 options:

1) If you choose the replacement notebook – An Acer Aspire 4736-662G32Mn – you can collect immediately and you get a 1 month waiver of your Singnet Broadband subscription.

2) If you want to wait for the Acer Touch And Rotate AS1820PTZ, they will deliver it to your doorstep sometime in the 1st week of Jan (that’s our deal as of today). Oh, we get the 1 month waiver too.

So which should you choose? Aspire 4736-662G32Mn or Aspire Touch And Rotate AS1820PTZ?

Well, that depends on what you need as the 2 notebooks have different strength.

Acer Aspire 4736-662G32Mn

The Aspire 4736-662G32Mn is a mainstream notebook with a powerful Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 mobile processor. It comes with a dedicated graphics processor, bigger screen, integrated DVD drive, webcam but is almost 80% heavier with shorter battery life.

This notebook retails around $1099 (just saw it at Newstead just last Saturday).

I would choose this if I don’t need to move it around (aka I don’t need portability) alot or I need the extra processing power or play 3D games on it (yes, good enough for 3D games, just don’t expect skyhigh frame rates).

Acer Aspire Touch And Rotate AS1820PTZ

The Aspire Touch And Rotate AS1820PTZ is everything the Aspire 4736-662G32Mn is not.

It’s portable with good battery life and spots a cool touch screen that can rotate and form a tablet (so you can hold and read it like a book).

I choose this as I want a portable device that is light a bigger than a typical netbook. I also surf and read on the internet alot and the AS1820PTZ would be more convenient to use.

So I would just sit back and wait for the delivery in Jan 2010.

Warrenty

Remember to get a copy of the Delivery Order (for the AS1820PTZ) or any kind of receipt (for the 4736-662G32Mn) as prove of purchase to claim warranty from Acer.

Warranty starts from the date of collection or delivery.

But I forgot to ask how long the warranty is … so I’ll update later when I find out.
