Essential Skills For Your Kids – Loving Yourself
By JamesHi Folks,
This post is a continuation of my last post on Enrichment Program Review: Shineon! School On Stage.
In that post, I gave a list of the values taught at Shineon but did not elaborate.
In this post, I’ll talk about one of the first values taught at the very beginning of the course my daughter took – It’s simply “Loving Yourself“.
Why It Matters
If you have read my previous post (link above in first para), you would have known that Shineon is an enrichment program with a focus on performing arts, such as Modeling, Acting, Hosting, etc.
In any of those performing arts, the manner, appearance and how the artist (I know they are just kids) carries themselves on and off the stage are important.
“Loving Yourself” is a core value taught to the kids to help them correct some of them less desirable habits – which kids tends to have at one time or another – such as digging their noses, sit with legs wide open while in a dress (for girls), dine messily, etc.
The best part is, once the kids learn this, you don’t have to nag at them anymore to correct any undesirable habits … just a reminder of the core value will do.
How Does It Help
“But don’t kids already know how to love themselves?” … you might ask.
Well … not exactly.
Kids are a fun loving lot. They love to play and have fun … so they seem to love themselves but having fun does not necessarily translate to loving themselves.
They do certain things or have certain habits because it’s fun to them.
Normally, parents would just scold them and asked them to “not dig your nose”, “sit properly” and “eat properly”.
Most kids are reluctant to follow as they don’t understand what the fuss is about … it’s fun to them, remember?
But kids that knows the value of “Loving Yourself” knows that they should get rid of these bad habits for their own sake and do so willingly. Isn’t that better?
Long Term Impact
On the side of the tangible benefits, kids that know how to love themselves are well mannered, well groom and pleasant to be with.
On the less tangible benefits, kids that know how to love themselves will be ready to receive better things in life.
I know the less tangible benefits may not come across so clearly but think about it yourself, which would you prefer:
- A well mannered kid or a lesser one?
- A well mannered student or a lesser one?
- A well mannered interviewee or a lesser one?
- A well mannered co-worker or a lesser one?
- A well mannered date or a lesser one?
See the point?
At least, that’s the way I see it. So It’s important to me.
If you think you kids can benefit from learning this Core Values and have fun along the way, you can contact Shineon here to find out more about their courses.
Cheers,
James
