Do you own a Credit Card?

I have a couple.

What do you do when you need to check your credit balance or any recent transactions charged to your card?

I guess you would have to do a check via the card issuers internet banking site or call their customer service, right?

Well, in either case, you will need to wait till you find a internet or wait for the customer service officer to get on (if you call in) … and seriously, I don’t like waiting … especially waiting for customer service officer – it can be a very long wait during peak hours.

That’s why I was so happy when Citibank came up with their Citi Mobile Platform – essentially Citibank Online optimized for mobile platform (i.e. optimized for your mobile phone, got it?).

Now let’s see what we can do with it.

Login On To Citi Mobile

Here are some screen captures from a iPhone – I use an iPhone but you can use any phone that supports a browser.

If you phone does not support an icon, you can also access it via the web address www.citibank.com.sg.

Just key in your Card Number and PIN – the same one that you use for Citibank Online – and you are in.

So what can Citi Mobile do for you?

Check Account Balance & Transactions

You can check your account balance and transactions – that’s what I do most of the time. It is also not limited to credit card accounts but all your Citibank accounts as well – such as checking account, fixed deposit account, savings account, credit line account, etc.

Funds Transfer

You can also do funds transfer to pay your Credit Card Bill. This is only available if you have an account that has funds in it, such as a savings account, credit line, etc.

Funds Transfer -Decide On Amount To Transfer, Add A Note And You Are Done

This is very useful if you need funds immediately and for some reason cannot locate an ATM terminal or internet kiosk to do so.

Security – Two-Factor Authentication

Security is provided by a One-Time Password (OTP similar to the online banking version) delivered via Flash SMS.

Now this Flash SMS is something unique and it’s not the same as your regular SMS. When requested, it will overlay on top of your authentication page (like the one shown below). Now you just have to remember it and key it in.

Oh and since the OTP is delivered via Flash SMS, you will not find it in your regular SMS Inbox. In fact, you wouldn’t find it anyway.

The last feature of Citi Mobile allows you to check for any Citibank related promotions. I don’t use this feature very much but you may find it useful.

Final Thoughts

Having been a Citibank Credit Card holder for so many years, there are times I really need to check for certain transactions or latest gourmet promotions or more often, my available credit and I need it immediately.

In the past, I’ll have to content with calling in and wait for the customer service officer to attend to me. With Citi Mobile, I can access those information right away. To me, that’s a big deal to me.

Plus, you don’t have to download any specific applications, any mobile phone with a browser and internet access is all you need.

You also don’t have to register or enroll again, if you have access to Citibank Online, you can access Citi Mobile via the same user id and password.
