Smoking Is Illegal … If Your Cigarettes Are Non-SDPC Ones
ByHi Folks,
It’s a new rule, and it starts from 1st January 2009. If you cigarette doesn’t looks like this (refer to image below), you could be fined $500 for each pack in your possession.
It’s a new way of identifying if a pack of cigarette has paid it’s duty in Singapore implemented by Singapore Customs. Read more of the report here.
‘The marking will serve as deterrence against the peddling and buying of contrabrand cigarettes and help our officers in the enforcement efforts,’ said Mr Fong Yong Kian, Director-General of Customs.
Well, if you happened to be a smoker, better clear your stock now and make sure those packs you buy from 1st January 2009 has the “SDPC” stamp.
Or better still, why not take this chance to quit smoking. It’s expansive, hurts your health and others around you and you need to follow a whole list of rules just to light up a stick anyway. So think about it, quitting smoking is not that difficult if you really want to do it.
Cheers,
James

Can officer collect fine directly from smoker who caught smoking Non-SDPC Ones?
Hey Authur,
I don’t think so. You will be issued a ticket/summon and fine is paid separately (usually stated on the back of the ticket/summon).
