IT Show 2011 – Floor Plans, Pricelist And Tips

Hi Folks,

It’s 2011 and it’s time to get ready for the 1st IT Show of the year … yes, I’m talking about IT Show 2011.

As usual, it will still be the same 4 days event during early March over the weekend when School Holiday starts.

In this post, I’ve consolidated (and will be adding more … to the best of my abilities) all the information currently available that you will need to make a buying decision at IT Show 2011.

If there is anything that you are interested in (at IT Show 2011) … just leave a comment and I’ll keep a lookout for you (and who knows, the merchant might just drop in with the information or maybe even an offer) :D

Buying Guides/Tips

  1. Check the prices at all booth before deciding who you want to buy from … yes, not all promotions are equal even when it’s the same product at the same show
  2. Always ask if you can get discount if you pay with cash … yes, there are savings from some merchants
  3. If you are paying by Credit Card, check which card will give you the best redemption gift and the quantum to qualify (Details below and bring all your cards along)
  4. If buying a large product (i.e. 42 inch LCD TV, big networked printer, etc) … always negotiate for free delivery (if it’s not included) … it’s for your own good (trust me)
  5. Leave unnecessary people and stuffs at home … don’t bring kids unless you are buying something for them … don’t bring strollers (the show is not stroller friendly) … if not you won’t find the shopping experience pleasant (it’s simply too loud and crowded)
  6. If you need it … just buy. If you just want it … think if you need the money for something first else before you buy.
  7. Thank you for contributing to the GDP growth of Singapore :D

Pre IT Show Deals

Usually a week or 2 before each major IT Shows … there will be offers/promotions/sales being offered by major electronic stores like Best Denki, Courts, Harvey Norman & Audio House either in store or at an event (think expo events such as Megatex).

If you are in a hurry, the deals there are not that bad.

If you must wait for IT Show to buy, use this opportunity to check out what’s on offer so you will know if your deal at the IT Show is good … savvy right?

      No one offers the iPad at reduced rate due to price control from Apple :P

      And yeah … I also wonder why no iPad Broadband bundle is being offered too :)

      Hey Saralash,

      I’ve not used the Dell Streak before … but personally felt that at 5 Inch … it’s too big to be used as a mobile phone and too small to be used as a tablet … so I’m staying away from it.

      I’m waiting for news on iPhone 5 to decide if it’s worth waiting for it …. if you need a touch screen smart phone right now … just go with iPhone4 :)

      Hey 2netskii,

      For the Apple iPhone 4, my recommendation would be just buy when you need it.

      It’s one of those models that is pretty much out of stock most of the time … so much so that the Telco’s don’t even have to incentivise too much.

      If you wait for IT Show … you may very well find that you have the money but there is no iPhone 4 for you to buy :)

      (Note: If you go to Apple SG Online store … you will note that even Apple don’t have stock :P )

      Hi Manoj,

      Past IT Shows usually have some booth that takes in your old hardware (may not be a trade-in program … more like a 2nd hand dealer) … so you can go with that.

      But just note that they usually don’t accept hardwares that are too old. :)

      Hey Whoopsy,

      Too early to tell and it’s very hard to share info on TV pricing as you’ll almost always have to ask them model by model.

      So the best is just go to the show and check them out :)

      Hey Anonymous,

      The availability of the Installment plans are determined by the individual merchants … if the booth you visit are operated by one of the big electronic chain store such as Harvey Norman, Courts, etc … definitely have some form of installment plan available :)

    Hi James, read that Apple released new macbooks but not arrived in sg yet. My Singnet BB just past 21 months and I can recontract anytime. Question is do you know how soon does it usually take for Epi centre to tie-up with an Isp with their new products? I’d definately prefer the new ones but not sure to how long do I have to wait or should I just recontract. Advise?

      Hey Weisheng,

      Personally, I’ve not come across Denon earphone before.

      For me, I use earphones from Klipsch (you should be able to find that at any booth selling Apple Accessories – which also sells many many other brands of earphones).

      There are also many other leading earphone makers at the IT Show … just drop by and check them out :)

    Hey Hi, I’m very interested in Nikon D3100, Nikon D5000 and Canon 550D. Can someone help me? How do I see if which camera is better than which? I prefer one that is user-friendly, not too complicated, and have the standard functions that produces good image quality.

      Hey Heng,

      I assume you are new to DSLR?

      All the 3 models you mentioned are entry-level models (D3100 as the most basic model in Nikon line-up).

      All 3 models produce very good image quality as compared to Point-and-Shoot (PNS) or prosumer digital camera. The IQ is comparable to one another.

      User friendliness is subjective … I prefer Nikon but I have friends who swear by Canon. So you just need to go test them out and decide for yourself.

      One thing to note … functions don’t produce good image quality … the lens you use, the sensor and your technique will have more impact on the what Image Quality you can achieve.

      But if you are talking about the scene settings (some refer to it as functions) … Canon DSLR’s have more variations and may be more attractive to users upgrading from PNS :)

      The EX520 series get about S$50 discount from list price only (they are new … so it’s normal).

      You might want to consider the older but higher range EX600 instead … they are clearing it at an amazing S$999 :)

      But no Fridges and Washing Machines … you can try Courts 37th Anniversary Sale or Harvey Norman Hardly Normal Sale for those (both currently still going on at their stores :)

      A bit overkill … a 12 inch netbook might be sufficient for your needs (unless you happen to be playing flash games on facebook) :P
